FRANCISCAN MONASTERY & CAPTAIN'S CEMETERY
One of the main attractions in Orebić is the Franciscan monastery and Church of Our Lady of Angels. View from 150 m above sea level, where the main monastery lodge is located, of Peljesac canal, Korcula, Mljet, and Lastovo is unforgettable.
Legend says that captains and sailors sailing in and out of Orebić hailed Our Lady of Angels with horns as a sign of gratitude and seeking protection. Franciscan monks would answer by ringing the church bell.

Hiking paths
Is there a better way to get moving and relax at the same time? In the entire area of Orebić Municipality, there are marked hiking paths. These are entered into the map which you can get in all tourist information centers. The paths will lead you alongside the sea, into the olive groves, and through small, inhabited, or deserted villages.

Mountian paths to St. Ilija are marked by standard markings. 3 routes are marked as shown on our map. St. Ilija is abundant in Mediterranean herbs, it is
also a habitat of moufflons, while at the mere peak, you will enjoy one of the best views on the Mediterranean.
MEDITERRANEAN - MOUNTAIN AREA OF ST. ILIJA MASSIF IS A UNIQUE TERRITORY ON CROATIAN COAST WHICH SHOULD BE EXCLUDED FROM ANY KIND OF HUMAN IMPACT!
Estimate well your physical fitness because you will need 4 hours to get to the top of the highest peak of Pelješac. Plan to leave early in the morning and
make sure you have a map as well as numbers of the helpline for The Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS) - station Orebić. St. Ilija is a favorite among mountaineers, but make sure you have read our www.visitpeljesac.hr before going there, and ask for advice from some of the experienced members
of Mountaineering Club Sveti Ilija.
Advice to tourists and mountaineers:

Ask and listen to the advice of mountain hut keepers and experienced mountaineers

Always take a battery torch, lighter or matches, and water with you

Take a small first aid kit with you

It is very important to have reserve clothing and protection against sun, rain, and wind.
